African Wildlife
Part Two
For most people’s lives, they have read about and seen videos and photos of African wildlife. But nothing compares to actually being in their presence. To be surrounded by a herd of elephants, the sounds, smells and sights are all encompassing. To be able look into the alert eyes of a majestic male African Lion and see his confidence cannot be fully described. To watch the age-old battle between Lions and Hyenas play out right before my eyes and seeing the brutality of it is something that will stay with me for a lifetime. To see the struggles of a mother Gazelle as she tries to protect her calf from an attacking Cheetah, only to lose in the end; but to then see that the Cheetah has her own cubs to feed. Finding a Leopard and her young cub in a large tree out of sight of her enemies, like Lions or Hyenas who would kill her and her cub if she was found. These are all scenes that still play out in my mind’s eye today and I know will stay with me for the rest of my life.
